AR has a new face! My new logo designed by Erika Jessop! I am totally in love with it.. the pictures are a part of a Christmas present for the mom of those wonderful three guys! I finally can proudly announce that i got a studio light and i am working on playing with it, so that i can start to offer some Studio-Mini-Children Sessions pretty soon! Stay tuned for more info's about that!

A new blog and my finally finished website is coming soon! 2009 is also bringing new prices and different packages! Good news for you, the print prices went down thanks to my new wonderful lab! I have a new online gallery for you guys to buy your pictures from but I also offer an In-Studio Consultation, where we just order your products together! Makes it easier on you!

Hallo everyone.. I know it's a while since my last post and this will not happen again. I promise. Today I got a very very special post for you. The maternity pictures of the wonderful H. She was so amazing to respond to my Maternity Model Search and allow me to picture her. I guess I don't need to tell you that I was VERY nervous and so happy that when I was able to show her a sneak of my work, she gave me the ok for a blogpost and what was even more important, she told me that she loves em!

Baby McGuire made his debut a couple of days later. Earlier than everyone thought. He was born December 11th. He is tiny but getting stronger everyday. Hopefully I will be able to show some newborn pictures very soon. Hold your fingers crossed that the precious little man get's to come home for Christmas!!

With Hillary i had a lot of fun shooting her senior pictures in the snow. She must have ordered it, cause it snowed all morning till our session and made me look totally funny, cause i remember me saying the day before on the phone, i can't see it snow over night, that won't happen! Maybe not in Germany, but in Iowa it sure can!! Lesson learned! lol!! Here is your sneak Hillary.. just for you!

Did you ever woke up one morning and looked at your child and thought how in the world could she possible be so big already?? Where did the time go? This is what i am thinking right now every morning and sometimes when i catch my daughter doing big people things. Like crossing her legs while talking on her toy phone. Trying to put the shirt on herself and wanting to use my make up. Gosh i thought it was yesterday when we brought her home and she was just a ball with ten fingers and ten toes.

This is when i just have to get my camera out and take some pictures to preserve exactly those moments. And of course i have to share some with you...

We went Trick or Treatin for the first time this year and i had so much fun watching her discovering how the whole candy thing works and i had to laugh so hard in the end when she just went to the door, smiled, said HI and kind of just waited for the people to through Candy in her bag.

Regensburg, Bavaria

So tonight i got a little bit of a different blogpost. I thought i gonna show you my hometown Regensburg in Germany and tell you just a little bit about it.

Once a Roman Legionary fortress built during the reign of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius in 179 A.D. , after 739, the seat of the Emperor Charlemagne for some periods, conquered by Napoleon is Regensburg now one of Germany's most rapidly expanding regions and home of the most wonderful beer gardens and pub's in Bavaria. Some even call it Italien's northerns city cause of the italien flair in every corner of the city. People in Regensburg love to sit outside in cafe's, chat and enjoy the wonderful historical buildings around them.

We even got a palace and a princess. Should you ever be in Regensburg you are not allowed to miss a tour through the wonderful palace and the park.

Or the most important Gothic cathedral east of the Rhine. The St. Peter's Cathedral.

This here is the Porta Praetoria, the northern gate of the Roman legionary camp of Castra Regina, while Marcus Aurelius was emperor in Rome. Together with the Porta Nigra in Trier, the Porta Praetoria is the only largely intact Roman town gate north of the Alps. The building is the Hotel Bischofshof where Jon's and mine wedding was celebrated and we spent our wedding night. We actually slept in the Porta Praetoria Room surrounded by the historical wall.

So i hope i could bring you my hometown a little closer and maybe you will now even plan to visit this wonderful city at the Donau when you are in Germany. Believe me it is worth a trip.. and if it is just for an afternoon in one of our wonderful beer gardens! I can't wait for my next trip home and for the pictures i will bring you when i am back. I am planning on booking some photoshoots for the time i will be home and you don't know how excited i am to use the historical scenery of Regensburg as a background! So stay tuned for dates i will be available for sessions in Regensburg, Munich and in between and of course for the pictures!

I had a premier yesterday! My very first time shooting a wedding! Kari called me two weeks ago and asked me if i wanted to shoot some pictures at her reception. Luckily i said yes cause i got a huge learning experience shooting the wonderful decoration, her getting dressed as the wonderful bride she was and the party in the evening. Thank you so much for giving me the chance to make my first steps into the wedding photography and to let me share some time with you on this very special day of yours!!! Tonight i had a wonderful time shooting a really amazing and beautiful girl. She loves photography just like me and when i asked her to be my model and she said yes i already knew that we will have a great time.. and boy we had! Hi everyone!

I got a new SECRET SESSION sneak for you..

Looks fun, ha? Wait until you see the rest! I really had a blast shooting them.. even if i again didn't had much luck with the weather!

This was actually the first time i went to Fort Dodge to shoot a session and i have to say, I LOVE IT.. i already got tones and tones of new ideas and fun spots for the next hundred sessions!

And here we are, right on my next topic! I wanna say THANK YOU SO MUCH to those who already had a session with me or booked one and spread the word about AR PHOTOGRAPHY and how much they like my pictures.. I am super thrilled about all the people who called or emailed me and booked a session or just keeping me in mind for their senior pictures or engagments sometime in the future!

Thank you so so much.. i love photography and i love that you love what i love.. and that you are making it possible for me to do it everyday!!

ISO explained...

Today i thought i will tell you a little bit about that mystical word ISO! What does ISO mean and how can it help you to take better pictures?

First let's get the term ISO figured out.. ISO stands for International Standarts Organisation. That is the standart by which light sensitivity is getting measured.

So that means that the ISO number is telling you how sensitive your film or camera sensor is to light. The lower the ISO number (for example ISO 50 or 100) the slower is the film or the less sensitive is the sensor and the longer it takes to expose the image right. And the higher the number (for example ISO 400, 1600) the faster and more sensitive is the film and the less light and time it takes to expose an image right.

So as you probably figured already, the less light you got the higher do you have to set your ISO. So where you before maybe had a hard time taking a good exposed or sharp picture, and instead got a very blurred mess or a picture almost black, do you now just go ahead and bump up your ISO setting to 200 or 400 or even 800 and you will be able to capture the scene with more success.

But be aware that there is, how it is with almost everything, a downside to that fantastic invention called ISO.. that is that as higher you bump up your ISO, as more grain or noise and loss in color saturation you will get. But this also depends on the camera you are using.. you will most likely get more grain with a general point-and-shoot than you will get with a Canon Rebel or even a 5D. This you will have to figure out by yourself and than also.. sometimes grain can add an interesting touch to a picture.. specially in black and white.

The Secret Session revealed

I am sooo excited.. finally i am able to show off some pictures of the most sweetest girls i know! The session was a birthday surprise for Brenna's and Danielle's Mom and really gave me a hard time not revealing it right the next day, cause i was so excited about how the pictures turned out and how much fun i had!!! The session was Jenna's idea, and when she told me that Brenna was the sweetest model i never would have guessed how amazing she really is!
And to make it even better, Brenna's beautiful sister Danielle and her amazing friend Maranda came along too and in between breaks and outfit changes we took some fun pictures and had a good time.

So once more... thank you so so much.. i had a blast and i hope i will be the lucky one to take your Senior pictures!!

Hi everyone!
I thought i should probably tell you all a little bit about my style of photography and what to expect from a session with me.

My style is more natural and casual. I love to pose as less as possible and just keep the session relaxed and fun. I believe that this way i get the better pictures of you with natural smiles and expressions.

With kids i specially try not to pose and avoid the "say cheese" as much as possible, cause the child will just perform for me and this you will be able to see in the images. I rather bring some toys, play a little, act silly with them, show them what my camera can do and make 'em having fun beeing my models.

So by the end of a session, i should have a nice variety of pictures, some posed, some when you didn't expected it and some while we we're having fun in between.

today.. how to take better pictures.

I thought it would be fun and helpful if i would randomly share some tips on how to snap better pictures of your children, family.. or how to make your session shots with me look even greater! I will also once in a while post "My found of the.." in which i present you some fun, photography related products.
So stay close.. lots of fun things to come!

But now onto my first little HOW TO's..

HOW TO HOLD THE CAMERA STEADY?

For horizontal photographs: be sure to keep your arms againt your body to steady the camera. This will help you prevent camera shake and kinda work as a tripod.

For SLR camera users: Use your left hand to support and focus the camera, and your right finger to press the shutter button.

For vertical photographs: support your camera in either your right or left hand and keep your elbow against your body to steady your camera. Again this prevents camera shake and will help you to get sharper pictures.

To steady the camera all the way, use a tripod. The tripod will let you use your camera in low light situation, such as night scenes, inside locations or when you try to picture fireworks.
